Out and About in the Lake District
High Furness is within the Lake District National Park which is only a short drive from Barrow and is a great place to get out and stretch your legs. Stunning scenery, abundant wildlife, cool, clear lakes, rivers and tarns, attractive villages and market towns mean that whatever the time of year and whatever the weather, there are always lots of things to do.
The National Park is part of Cumbria's 'Adventure Capital" where you can particpate in walking, mountain biking, climbing, canoeing, rafting, parachuting and hang gliding. If you want to relax you can sit by the shores of Lake Coniston during summer which is a wonderful way to pass an afternoon or early evening. Nearby is Beatrix Potter's house, a very popular attraction visited by many people.
The area is very popular as a location for film productions. Hollywood stars such as Renee Zellwegger have filmed here and various stars such as Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman have holidayed in the area.
